“The next day was broiling, almost the last, certainly the warmest, of the summer.”
–F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

September is such a transitional month, don’t you think? With the start of school, we begin looking forward to fall, while still holding onto those last days of summer. So often these September days are unbearably hot; I always find myself anxiously awaiting the arrival of cooler temperatures, while already missing the carefree days of summer. I think I feel it even more these days. It makes me a little sad to think of my children being just a little older when summer finally comes around again. I do my best to treasure these sweet memories. And with that, here is my ode to summer, a compilation of the things I will miss:
I will miss the backyard play with impromptu water fights.
Watching my children explore new places.
Cooling off at the Al Ruschhaupt splash pad.
The hot Texas summer skies that are to die for.
And watching my kids and husband swim at the local pool.
I enjoy these days so much. As much as I look forward to fall and all of the new discoveries it will bring, these are still moments I will desperately miss. Thank you summer, for being so good to us.
