As an Anna, TX baby photographer and mother to three little ones, photographing babies in their first year of life makes me a bit teary. Isn’t it amazing how much a little person can change in just one year? From a snuggly tiny newborn to a little person developing their own identity, it is incredible to watch this transformation unfold in the blink of an eye.
This sweet little girl, just a few days shy of her first birthday when we took these, was already full of personality and ready to take on the world! I felt as though she was humoring me a bit by giving me some good shots–she was much more interested in exploring the wide world around her.
Another aspect I love when planning these sessions is hearing client’s visions and doing my very best to bring those to life. I never want to provide cookie cutter sessions–I want all images to be ones that are looked back on years from now and still feel personal. For that reason, I don’t provide standard props and backgrounds–not only are setups and studio style shots not my strength, I don’t feel they always provide something for clients to connect with.
For a session like this, I do have a few standard items: a cake stand, a few outfits from my studio wardrobe (the floral outfit and ruffle bloomers were hand sewn by me and are available for use), but I absolutely love to integrate personal items into these sessions–they add so much personality and meaning. This gorgeous cake stand belonged to Baby Maci’s great grandmother–not only is it beautiful, but it holds beautiful family ties as well. Maci’s mother handmade the lovely fabric background, painted the paper mache one, and utilized pearls from Maci’s newborn photos. All of this combined for a lovely vision with a touch of personal meaning.
Baby Maci, I hope you had a wonderful birthday–I loved getting to be the one to photograph this stage of your life, and I’m so glad you enjoyed discovering cake :) You are going to bring so much to the world!
